Biography
Edward’s expertise is in handling dispute resolution and litigation, regulatory work and also advising clients on commercial law and private client matters.
He has extensive experience gained over many years in top tier international law firms Clyde & Co and Lovells (now Hogan Lovells) and has acted for all kinds of local and international clients including the Hong Kong Government, companies in the financial services industry, tycoons, blue chip companies and multinationals.
In litigation, Edward has represented clients in complex cases at trial and at the highest levels of appeal (including an appeal to the Privy Council in England) and has worked on high media profile and landmark legal cases.
Representative Cases:
- Hailed in Time magazine as one of the top 5 most important environmental cases worldwide that year, Edward acted for the successful party, the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong Government, which objected to a proposal by the KCRC to build the multibillion dollar second railway link between Hong Kong and mainland China over an important wildlife habitat.
- Handling the first ever appeal to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong’s Listing Appeals Committee, the highest appellate level.
- Acting for Hong Kong’s largest power company in major court proceedings in Hong Kong and related proceedings in England, Texas and Florida arising out of alleged breaches of confidentiality by a Hong Kong barrister.
- Successfully acting for a former media mogul in an investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption into the circulation figures of a leading Hong Kong newspaper.
Edward contributed chapters to the Hong Kong Legal Practice Manuals, Civil Litigation 1 and 2, Second Edition, published by FT Law & Tax Asia Pacific.
He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1992 and in Scotland in 1991 where he is also a notary public.
